Apprenticeship

Giving Tree is currently working with several unique projects to create examples of gardens that serve the well being of our community and ourselves. Through our apprenticeship program, we offer a direct experience in these projects while teaching the art form of healing through service.

Service as Medicine

By exploring the ancient tradition of Service as Medicine, we have found to apply self observation in our service to the garden. This is a practice of observing oneself while in the role of contribution and it is the most valuable endeavor we could ever take on. It leads us to know ourselves and be a valuable asset to our community.

Not only will students gain experience in gardening, working with nature and how to apply the principals of Permaculture, but they will also be taught the ways of knowing one’s self. To know one’s self is to become aware of one’s tendencies, life’s challenges, strengths & weaknesses, and thus become resilient, empowered & balanced. To be sovereign and liberated internally, we will have a great sense of resiliency to endure whatever happens outside ourselves.

We are seeking students who are passionate about healing the earth and themselves. In working together, we will tend the gardens that provide food, medicine and more for our family & friends.

These students must be ready to experience the full spectrum of gardening from weeding to designing full gardens. All of this will empower the apprentice to grow & mature through service to the community.

In learning how to work with the garden, we become responsible, able to care for ourselves and others. No student will be pushed beyond their capacity, but all students will find their edge of what they believe they are capable of and discover their full potential!

Apprentices will assist at Lindsey Farms, Happy Tales, our Personal Homestead and any new jobs that come in. We will teach you how to adapt and design for each particular site given its diverse needs according to landscape and the client. The help needed at each site will vary so each student should be ready for whatever the day presents.
